'Bachelorette' Host Chris Harrison Hates Lifetime's 'UnREAL'

Malibu Boys And Girls Club Gala - ArrivalsIf you thought last night's finale of "The Bachelorette" was dramatic, wait until you hear what host Chris Harrison had to say about Lifetime's "Bachelor"-skewering series "UnREAL."

In an interview with Variety, Harrison didn't mince words when asked for his thoughts on the drama, which revolves around the behind-the-scenes action on a fictional dating reality show that resembles "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette." Despite the show's critical acclaim, Harrison isn't a fan.

"Really, the main difference that I've seen is that people watch 'The Bachelor,'" Harrison told the trade during an interview at "The Bachelorette: Men Tell All" taping, which took place earlier this month. "It's complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails - they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it - at the end of the day, no one is watching. I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show. Why? It is terrible. It is really terrible."

Those are some harsh words, though Harrison may want to check his facts. After all, the show is a hit with critics, and while it only enjoys a small fraction of the audience of Harrison's shows (Variety reports that the "Bachelorette" season finale scored some 8.1 million viewers, while "UnREAL" has topped out at 815,000), it was enough of a success that Lifetime ordered a second season.

Harrison said that he's okay with other parodies of the "Bachelor" franchise, particularly those on "Saturday Night Live" and the Ben Stiller-produced show "Burning Love," but said that "UnREAL" hadn't earned its place in popular culture in order to take shots at his series.

"UnReal' is just a really bad attempt [at a parody," Harrison told Variety, "and they got what they deserved, and that is no one is watching the show."
