Chris Pine Joins 'Wonder Woman' in Multi-Picture DC Universe Deal

Chris Pine will boldly go where maybe a few other men have gone before by joining the DC Cinematic Universe. According to TheWrap, the "Star Trek" hero has closed a deal to play Steve Trevor in the 2017 movie "Wonder Woman," which Patty Jenkins is directing for Warner Bros.

Steve will be a love interest for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, but he'll also have plenty of his own action. (It would be fun to see Chris in damsel in distress mode, for a change, but perhaps they won't go that route.) There are no details yet on his storyline, but TheWrap said Chris' deal includes multiple movies and sequel options. Wonder Woman will make her debut next year in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" before her own movie -- with Chris' Steve Trevor -- comes out June 23, 2017.

So who is Steve Trevor? It's not clear how they'll introduce him in the movie, but here's a description from Cinema Blend:

In the most traditional version of Wonder Woman's origin, Steve Trevor is a fighter pilot who crashes on Princess Diana's (Wonder Woman's) home island of Themyscira, where he is nursed back to health. Unfortunately, men aren't actually allowed to be on the island, so Wonder Woman finds herself torn between worlds. She ultimately returns with him, which is how she enters our world. Since we know Diana will already be part of the DC universe after next summer's Batman v. Superman, odds are that story will be reworked, unless it's all told as flashbacks."

We'll have to see how that turns out, and there's plenty of time for the details to emerge. Right now, Chris is filming "Star Trek Beyond," which just started principal photography in late June in Vancouver, with a July 8, 2016 release date.

What do you think about Chris' Steve Trevor casting? Do you think he'll end up with his own movie, as part of this multi-picture deal?
