Fox Cancels Ryan Seacrest's 'Knock Knock Live' After 2 Episodes

knock knock live, ryan seacrestFox spent a lot of time and money touting its new reality series, "Knock Knock Live." Unfortunately for the network, no one was very keen on answering -- or watching.

According to Variety, Fox has pulled the show from its schedule after airing only two episodes, following dismal ratings for the Ryan Seacrest-hosted series. "Knock Knock" featured Seacrest and other celebrities -- including Justin Bieber -- knocking on strangers' doors and offering them prizes, but viewers just didn't take the bait.

Variety reports that the show's premiere episode on July 21 nabbed a paltry 1.7 million viewers, "marking the smallest demo rating for any Big Four series premiere this summer." That's gotta hurt. And apparently, despite desperate cross-promotion efforts on other Fox series including "So You Think You Can Dance," this week's installment didn't fare much better, leading Fox to pull the plug, effectively cancelling the show.

The network plans to fill "Knock Knock"'s Tuesday at 9 p.m. timeslot with a one-hour encore of "The Last Man on Earth" on August 4, and half-hour reruns of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Last Man" going forward, until the fall schedule picks up.

Seacrest, who also executive produced "Knock Knock," will pick himself up and return for the final season of "American Idol," which starts in January.
