Jimmy Kimmel's Son Billy Is Recovering From His Second Heart Surgery

Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel and his family had a stressful day on Monday, but it seems to have gone well.

Kimmel's youngest son, Billy, had to undergo his second heart surgery at just 7 months old. Fortunately, ABC announced that the operation was "successful," as People reports. It was done to correct a serious condition called tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a set of congenital heart defects Billy was born with.

The defects meant that Billy wasn't getting enough oxygen in his lungs when he was born because he had a blocked pulmonary valve and a hole in his heart. Doctors had to perform the first surgery when he was just 3 days old, and Billy will still likely need additional surgeries in the future. Monday's procedure was originally set for late October, but it was delayed "due to the common cold," according to People.

Understandably, Kimmel is taking the week off to be with his family. Fans will still get to see new episodes air, though. Chris Pratt will host on Monday, and then Tracee Ellis Ross, Neil Patrick Harris, and Melissa McCarthy will each take a turn. We've seen that guest hosts like Jennifer Lawrence are capable of holding it down for Kimmel, so we hope he'll enjoy taking the time he and his family need.
