Chris Pine Just Mocked 'Avengers: Infinity War,' But He Made a Fair Point

Premiere Of Warner Bros. Pictures' 'Wonder Woman' - ArrivalsChris Pine just beamed himself up to the center of the DC vs. Marvel war, but please don't kill him.

His complaint isn't really about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's about the comic book superhero genre's obsession with fighting and wars, and the third "Avengers" movie playing into that with "Infinity War" as a title. Plus, he said it in such a lighthearted way. But you decide for yourself when you watch the ScreenSlam video below. Maybe you won't give him a pass.

Pine plays Steve Trevor in DC's "Wonder Woman," and in his video chat with ScreenSlam he talked about what interested him in the role. The reporter first complimented director Patty Jenkins on doing a great job combining the aspects of a blockbuster with the humanity of the story; he asked Chris Pine if that was why he signed on.

Pine said that was one reason, along with just wanting to work with Patty:

"I, like you, agree that within this genre it's difficult to do something new. Usually you just see a bunch of people killing one another in outfits and blowing up cities. Like, I know there's a thing called 'Infinity War' coming out. Which is like, really? Infinity war? We need more war for all time? So I thought at the heart of this is a woman who's about love and compassion, and love trumps all. How great is that?"

Watch his interview:Call him a hypocrite if you want, since there's plenty of fighting in "Wonder Woman" and his "Star Trek" movies, but it's still fair to point out that these fantasy movies tend to glorify violence on a massive scale. "Wonder Woman" may still be an action-heavy superhero movie, like the others, but at least it has a beating heart ... and does not have war in the title.
