Jennifer Esposito Exits 'NCIS' After One Season: 'It Was a Great Experience'

"Philly" -- When a missing MI6 Officer is linked to a murdered petty officer, Gibbs sends Quinn and Bishop to Philadelphia to work with MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves (Duane Henry). Also, Quinn painfully recounts the NCIS case that made her leave field work, on NCIS, Tuesday, Oct. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. Pictured:Mark Harmon, Jennifer Esposito. All Rights ReservedJennifer Esposito issued a statement to Deadline, confirming their report that she is leaving "NCIS" after her one season as a series regular:

"It was a great experience. I could not have asked for a better opportunity than to work with the NCIS cast and producers."

Her character, NCIS Special Agent Alexandra "Alex" Quinn, was conceived by former showrunner Gary Glasberg not long before his death, Deadline reported, and the site said "NCIS" plans to go in a new creative direction in Season 15.

When Season 14 premiered in September 2016, Esposito joined Duane Henry and Wilmer Valderrama as new series regulars, replacing OG star Michael Weatherly, who left after Season 13.

In the Season 14 finale, Alex Quinn took two unexplained phone calls from her mother; it's possible those calls will be involved in her exit from Gibbs's (Mark Harmon) team.

Deadline noted that Esposito is continuing her recurring role on "The Affair" and will be seen opposite John Travolta in the feature film "Speed Kills."

"NCIS" Season 15 is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, September 26 on CBS.
