Steven Spielberg Raids Prestige TV Shows For Pentagon Papers Movie

'Five Came Back' World PremiereForget movie starts slumming it in television. Now, TV is where big-name directors go to find talent to stack their films.

Steven Spielberg already signed up legends Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep for "The Papers," about the classified Pentagon Papers that were revealed in 1971. Now, he's raiding prestige TV for the rest of the cast, and wow — it looks like he just looked at last year's Emmys nominations and started calling everyone on the list.

Here's who is joining the movie: Sarah Paulson ("People v. O.J. Simpson," "American Horror Story"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul"), Matthew Rhys ("The Americans"), Bradley Whitford ("Transparent," "West Wing"), Carrie Coon ("The Leftovers," "Fargo"), Jesse Plemons ("Fargo," "Breaking Bad"), David Cross ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), Alison Brie ("Community," "Mad Men"), Bruce Greenwood ("American Crime Story"), Tracy Letts ("Divorce," "Homeland"), Michael Stuhlbarg ("Fargo," "Boardwalk Empire", and Zach Woods ("Silicon Valley").

The Pentagon Papers first came to light in the New York Times. Then, the Washington Post began to run its own series on the information, and had to fight the government for their First Amendment rights. Hanks will play Post editor Ben Bradlee, and Streep will play publisher Kay Graham.

The movie has been fast-tracked to open this awards season, with a limited release on Dec. 22 and a wide release in early January.
