The clock has run out for "24: Legacy," starring Corey Hawkins, but there will probably still be more "24" in the future. Fox officially canceled "24: Legacy" after one season, but the network is now working with "24" producers now on continuing the franchise, possibly as an anthology, still built around the iconic real-time format. No "Legacy" cast members would be involved in that, Variety reported.
"24: Legacy" debuted after the Super Bowl this past February, but lost viewers along the way, ending its ranking at 34th among all broadcast series for the season, based on Nielsen live-plus-seven numbers.
At Fox's May upfronts, co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman said Corey Hawkins's schedule on Broadway for "Six Degrees of Separation" meant "24: Legacy" couldn't be considered for the fall. It's possible they were already planning to cancel it by that point and wanted to wait for the right time to say it. Newman did hint that more "24" could be in the mix, saying they were "so happy with the creative" on "24: Legacy" and thought Hawkins "did a great job." Newman and co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said, at the time, that they wanted to sit down with "24" executive producer Howard Gordon to see if he had ideas on where the franchise could go next.
So that must be where they are now, moving on from "Legacy" and deciding maybe the future is in an anthology franchise, like "American Horror Story."
But if Corey Hawkins is now done with "24: Legacy," maybe he'll have time to return as Heath on "The Walking Dead" so we can finally see what happened to him.
