AFI Selects Top 11 Films and Top 10 TV Shows of 2014



The American Film Institute has announced its 2014 award winners in movies and television, and for the first time ever, selected 11 films to honor as the best of the best.



Movies cited by AFI that have already received plenty of early awards season love include "Boyhood," "Birdman," "Selma," and "Whiplash." Meanwhile, freshman television shows made a splash with the AFI jurors in 2014, with series such as "Jane the Virgin," "How to Get Away with Murder," "Fargo," "Silicon Valley," "The Knick," and "Transparent" all scoring awards for their debut seasons.



According to AFI's website, the honorees are "deemed by AFI's Jury to be culturally and artistically representative of the year's most significant achievements," and "acknowledge the collaborative nature of film and TV production, bringing the community's creative teams together in a unique celebration of their work."
