'Captain Phillips' Star Barkhad Abdi Books 'Hawaii Five-0' Role

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi has landed a high-profile guest-starring gig on CBS cop drama "Hawaii 5-0," Entertainment Weekly reports.

The "Captain Phillips" star is set to play a character named Roko Contee, described by EW as "a Congolese warlord who, at one time, was the most wanted man in the world. Although the character was allegedly killed during a 2011 bombing by the Zaire Air Force, the Five-0 team discovers that the rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated: Roko has been working as a taxi driver hiding in plain sight."

Executive producer Peter Lenkov tells EW that the character was modeled on Ugandan warlord Jospeh Kony, and added that Abdi's appearance on the show is a "big, big episode."

"We were so lucky to get him, and we wrote it with him in mind," Lenkov said of the actor.

Abdi's character is expected to appear on "Hawaii Five-0" during the 15th episode of the season.
