'The Last Jedi' Run Time Confirmed as Longest 'Star Wars' Movie Yet

May The Force be with your bladder.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson confirmed the running time of Episode VIII to be 150 minutes, aka 2.5 hours. That was the word out there from several theater chains not too long ago, but sometimes those early counts turn out to be premature. But during a press conference in France, Johnson confirmed the run time.

Here's the scoop via John Hoey of Star Wars News Net:

Here's a rundown of the previous Star Wars run times (via Collider, and BBFC):

  • "A New Hope" – 121 minutes
  • "The Empire Strikes Back" – 124 minutes
  • "Return of the Jedi" – 131 minutes
  • "The Phantom Menace" – 133 minutes
  • "Attack of the Clones" – 142 minutes
  • "Revenge of the Sith" – 140 minutes
  • "The Force Awakens" - 135 minutes

Here's another tidbit from Johnson's French press conference:

Expect to hear a lot more from Rian Johnson going forward, since Lucasfilm has given him the keys to the franchise, letting him create an entirely new "Star Wars" trilogy separate from the Episode I-IX Skywalker saga.

"The Last Jedi" opens December 15, 2017.
