Norman Reedus has been going toe-to-toe with hordes of zombies in "The Walking Dead," and his next project doesn't sound any less distressing.
Reedus has signed on to co-star in "Air" with Djimon Hounsou, which will be a cheery little tale about a cryogenic facility built to keep some vestige of humanity alive after a nuclear blast. All the fancy powerful people are cozily tucked into their cryogenic chambers with the hope that some day humans will be able to recreate some semblance of society. Meanwhile, Hounsou and Reedus will be playing the guys who are in charge of trying to keep things moving smoothly in the facility. Sounds pretty stressful, but surely nothing too terrible will happen, right? Yeah, right.
The geek cred for "Air" is through the roof, with "The Walking Dead" writer Robert Kirkman on board as a producer and video game designer and co-writer Christian Cantamessa making his directorial debut. Cantamessa, whose writing and designing credits include "Red Dead Redemption" and "GTA: San Andreas," has co-written the script with writer/developer Chris Pasetto. Cantamessa previously wrote and directed the short film "How I Survived the Zombie Apocalypse." Although plenty of directors have tried their hands at adaptations of video games, it doesn't usually go the other way around.
This has been in the works for a while now. The project was first announced way back in 2011, with the title "Wake Cycle." Filming will begin in Vancouver on March 24, with an estimated wrap-up date of April 18.
In the meantime, you can catch Hounsou in the upcoming Marvel actioner "Guardians of the Galaxy," while Reedus is dodging zombies every Sunday night.
