Jon Negroni is not done with his Pixar theories.
Remember last summer, when the Pixar superfan wrote up his incredibly comprehensive report linking all of the studio's movies into one giant, linear universe? It was an ambitious undertaking that resulted in something obsessively researched and remarkably well-reasoned. In short, it blew our minds. And now, he's reemerged with a new theory, this one revealing the identity of Andy's mom using the storyline from "Toy Story 2."
Remember that heartbreaking sequence in which we learn about how cowgirl Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack) was abandoned at the side of road by the girl who once loved her? You know, the one in which Sarah McLachlan's "When She Loved Me" kicks your emotions into high gear and you explain the rivers of tears coming out of your eyes as an allergic reaction to popcorn seasoning? Well, Negroni argues that that little girl-turned-toy abandoner is none other than Andy's mom.
Citing Jessie's history, generational timelines, and, of all things, Andy's hat, Negroni's case is pretty solid, save for a few minor logic flaws that many nit-picking commenters have pointed out. You can read the full theory and comments here, then decide for yourself.
For what it's worth, here's that Sarah McLachlan sequence we referenced above. Just be sure to have some tissues handy.
