No One Has Asked Jeff Goldblum to Be in 'Jurassic World,' But 'Independence Day 2' Is a Possibility

Jeff Goldblum has a brief but memorable turn in the new Wes Anderson living dollhouse "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and as such is making the press rounds. One thing that people can't help but ask him about, for obvious reason, are a pair of sequels to two of his most beloved movies: "Jurassic Park" and "Independence Day." Turns out he'll probably turning up in one... and not the other.



To recap: "Jurassic World" is the upcoming new entry in the "Jurassic Park" franchise (this is technically the fourth film and no, no one remembers the third one). While Goldblum starred in the first two movies, both for director Steven Spielberg, he sat out the third installment and it looks like he won't make an appearance in the new film, which is being directed by "Safety Not Guaranteed" director Colin Trevorrow (the confirmed cast includes Guardian of the Galaxy Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard). As for "Independence Day 2," little is known except for the fact that Will Smith will not be returning for the sequel, again to be headed up by producer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich, and timed for the movie's 20th anniversary, in the summer of 2016.



Goldblum tells The Huffington Post's Mike Ryan that "they haven't called me" for "Jurassic World." And that "nobody asked" him about the third one either. Harsh guys! This is Ian Malcolm we're talking about! Rock star mathematician! Hello!



The star does talk about the "Independence Day" sequel with more optimism, however, which is good (what? Did he play a mathematician in that too? It involved computers, I know that). "They've talked to me about it and I've talked to them about it and they're excited and I'm anxious and eager to see -- I haven't read anything -- what they cook up," Goldblum told HuffPo. "You know, I think they're trying to put it together."



"The Grand Budapest Hotel" begins rolling out on March 7^th. There's a cool scene with Goldblum in a museum that I think was inspired by "Dressed to Kill."
