Facial Hair Transplants Are the Hottest Celebrity-Worshipping Trend Right Now

facial hair transplants

It's common to hear about everyday people getting plastic surgery to look more like their Hollywood idols. But the latest cosmetic craze is oddly specific: facial hair transplants that imitate the beards and mustaches of certain stars.

DNAinfo reports that plastic surgeons across the country have seen a spike in patients who want to look like scruffy-faced celebs, including Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and even mustacheod '80s relic Tom Selleck. Patients will sometimes bring in photos of specific celebs they want to imitate, doctors say, looking to boost specific facial hair styles including beards, mustaches, and even sideburns.

The procedure costs about $7,000, depending on how extensive the transplant is (anywhere from "filling in a few gaps or doing a complete beard construction," according to DNAinfo), and plastic surgeons say that once healed, the hair can be groomed and shaved, and will grow back just like regular hair.

Unsurprisingly, this trend is especially popular in Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Park Slope, where beardless hipsters envious of their brethren have been going under the knife in droves in order to better fit in with their hirsute neighbors. We know meme-quoting hipsters love Gosling, but the hair transplants might be taking that obsession a bit too far.
