The 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Release Date Revealed

Warner Bros.'s long-gestating big-screen adaptation of classic TV series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." finally has a release date, set for less than a year from now.

"The Man From U.N.C.L.E." will hit theaters on January 16, 2015. The 1960s series focused on a CIA agent, Napolean Solo (Henry Cavill), and KGB agent, Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer), who team up at the height of the Cold War to take down a mysterious international organization bent on bringing destruction to the globe.

Rebooting the series as a movie had been in the works for many years, with Tom Cruise and George Clooney once attached to star. Steven Soderberg was originally on board to direct, considering leading men including Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, and Michael Fassbender for a part before bailing on the project. Guy Ritchie eventually took over directing duties in 2012.

Here's hoping Hammer's turn as Kuryakin is more successful than his latest retro reboot, "The Lone Ranger." Maybe Cavill's role in the red-hot "Man of Steel" will help pique audience interest.
