Are you ready for romance, intrigue, reincarnation, and Colin Farrell on a horse?
Of course you are, because you're looking forward to seeing the movie version of author Mark Helprin's "Winter's Tale" -- about a man with the gift of reincarnation who sets out to save the woman he loves -- this Valentine's Day. And what better way to celebrate your love of a good ol' fashioned sweeping, fairy tale-esque love story than with some sweeping sounds from the movie? We're debuting three full-length instrumentals from composers Hans Zimmer and Rupert Gregson-Williams, as well as pop songstress KT Tunstall's single "Miracle, in its entirety, a day before the soundtrack's release.
The first three tracks, each by co-composers Hans Zimmer and Rupert Gregson-Williams, give you a sense of the themes inherent to the movie. The spare, piano-sprinkled melancholia of "What's the Best Thing You've Ever Stolen?" will pull at your heartstrings, while the sinister-sounding "You Don't Quit Me, Boy" delivers a sense of dread that can only embody a bad guy played by someone like Russell Crowe, who, coincidentally, plays the bad guy in "Winter's Tale." The third orchestral piece, "She Was Like a Bright Light," calls back to the aforementioned melancholia, but its up-notes and the inclusion of a harp (harp!), offer up a sense of hope, which, in our opinion, is something that no romantic drama should ever be without. The fourth track, "Miracle," is by Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, the creative force behind "Suddenly I See," a song so pervasive that it was seemingly used in every movie and TV show in 2006. While we don't foresee the same kind of omnipresence for "Miracle," it's a wonderfully hooky, acoustically complex piece of pop. Tunstall's vocals also remind us of reigning romance movie soundtrack queen Sarah McLachlan. And that's a good thing. (Good luck getting "Suddenly I See" and "Angel" out of your head. You're welcome!) The "Winter's Tale" soundtrack is available tomorrow (February 4) on Amazon and iTunes, and the movie hits theaters on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2014.
