In a post on Instagram, Singer offered a small peek at the treatment's opening scene, which is set somewhere along the Nile River in Egypt, and features a large battle and smoking ruins. Also there are the Four Horsemen, whose presence were teased in "Days of Future Past."
Fans of mythology know the four horsemen of the apocalypse as symbols of impending doom, and the foursome depicted in X-Men lore are no different: The Four Horsemen are henchmen of the villain Apocalypse. Screen Crush has a detailed synopsis of their importance to the story:
In the comics, [Apocalypse] was known for enlisting the aide of four handpicked mutants, often times by force and brainwashing. Once under his thrall, Apocalypse would then enhance their mutant abilities and transform them into super-soldiers to carry out his will, giving them the names Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death. In a famous comic iteration, the mutant Angel (played by Ben Foster onscreen in "X-Men: The Last Stand") succumbed to Apocalypse after losing his wings and became both Archangel and the Horseman of Death.
We can't wait to see how they're incorporated into the next installment in the franchise. In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes on Singer's Instagram account for more plot details.
