Despite sinking ratings, "American Idol" is determined to keep afloat, and is keeping its judging roster intact for Season 14.
Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban are all set to return to "Idol" next year, marking the first time since 2012 that there will be no changes in the judging lineup between seasons. Host Ryan Seacrest, who's been with the show since its inception, is also coming back.
"Jennifer, Keith, Harry, and Ryan are the very best in the business at what they do, and I'm thrilled that they are returning to American Idol for another season," said David Hill, senior executive vice president of 21st Century Fox, in a statement announcing the news. "Each brings unique qualities and expertise to the team, but they all share the same passion for helping undiscovered singers achieve the American dream."
The stability at the judges' table comes as the show faces some uncertainty heading into its next season -- namely, how to cope with continually sliding ratings. "Idol" was down 28 percent in the coveted 18-49 bracket this year, and has been on a consistent downward trajectory for years now.
Producers had been toying with the idea of cutting "Idol"'s schedule down to one show per week, like fellow flagging reality competition shows "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance," which combine both a performance and results show into one weekly installment. No word yet on whether or not Fox is definitively going forward with that plan.
"American Idol" will be back for Season 14 sometime in 2015.
