Fox's 'Gotham' May Feature Mr. Freeze

Fox's "Gotham" already has a huge cast of characters, focusing on the villains who will one day antagonize Batman, but according to the director of the show's pilot, there's at least one more bad guy in store.

Director Danny Cannon spoke with HitFix about "Gotham"'s sprawling ensemble, noting that while a young Bruce Wayne will feature prominently in the series, the show isn't really about Batman, but the corruption plaguing his hometown. Iconic Batman characters like the Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy are already set to get their spotlight on the small screen, but according to Cannon, there's one villain in particular he'd like to explore further.

"I have a big pitch with [series creator] Bruno [Heller] about the Mr. Freeze character, whose origins are uncertain," Cannon told HitFix. "If I can win [DC comics exec] Geoff Johns over and if I can win Bruno over, then I look forward to the moment where that character can be realized."

That's good news for fans of the Mr. Freeze depicted in the comics, who almost literally became a cartoon on the big screen in 1997's "Batman and Robin" thanks to horrible, campy one-liners delivered by Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Gotham" seems like a much more serious affair, so we're eager to see what Cannon and co. have up their sleeves for the character this time around.

"Gotham" is set to debut sometime this fall on Fox.
