"Community" fans, rejoice: The hope for #SixSeasonsAndAMovie lives on, as Yahoo Screen has announced a deal to bring the canceled NBC comedy back for a sixth season.
The late-breaking decision was revealed Monday, after the show's producers brokered a last-minute deal to revive the series for 13 episodes on the web video service. The cast's contracts were set to expire Monday night at midnight.
"I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," said show creator Dan Harmon in a statement. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"
Harmon and producer Chris McKenna will both return for the new batch of episodes. Most of the cast is expected to return, too, including star Joel McHale, who released his own statement about the renewal:
The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated." ---Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It's the internet. We can swear now.
Season six of "Community" is expected to debut sometime this fall on Yahoo Screen.
