2015 Oscar Predictions and Other Things We Learned at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival

Did you miss the Toronto Film Festival? Or maybe you wouldn't touch a film festival with a ten-foot pole. In any case, we've got you covered -- we saw a lot of movies at TIFF this year, and several of them will be Oscar contenders.

If you want a leg up on your friends, we've got the 10 things you need to know that came out of this year's TIFF. Blow your friends' minds with your vast knowledge, even if you didn't pay one iota of attention during the actual festival.

"The Guest" is awesome. And Dan Stevens (formerly of "Downton Abbey" fame) is so great as a horror-movie lead/raging psychopath it will blow your mind.

Eddie Redmayne -- yes, Eddie Redmayne from "Les Miserables" -- will get an Oscar nomination for playing physician Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."

Similarly, Benedict Cumberbatch will get an Oscar nomination for his depiction of Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game."

Pixar shorts continue to dominate. And be the cutest thing ever. Next up, "Lava," which'll melt your heart into a puddle of mush. (Oscar nod here too.)

People were divided over David Cronenberg's "Maps to the Stars," but no one can argue it's a return to his insane roots. Things take quite the turn in the movie ... and this happens.

Steve Carell's serious turn in "Foxcatcher" will undoubtedly impress Oscar voters.

Kevin Smith's "Tusk" is seriously the most f**ked-up thing we've ever seen.

Oh no, wait, maybe it was "The Voices."

Reese Witherspoon aimed high this year with two films at the Fest: "Wild" and "The Good Lie." Fans of the actress will be over the moon. Other people not so much.

Jake Gyllenhaal's gaunt visage in "Nightcrawler" will stick with you for days ... and probably earn him an Oscar nomination.

Here's all of Moviefone Canada's TIFF coverage. More to come over the next several months.
