A Remastered, HD Version of 'The Wire' is Coming to HBO -- Eventually

Museum Of The Moving Image Presents HBO's

HBO is remastering classic series "The Wire" in high definition, though plans for an upcoming rebroadcast are murky at best.

A new teaser promoting a "replay marathon" of the show on HBO Signature promised to broadcast every episode from the series -- which ran for five seasons from 2002 through 2008 on the cable network -- beginning later this week. The episodes are set to be remastered in HD for the first time.

But while HBO confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that there are indeed plans to remaster the series, the promo promising the marathon would start on September 4 "ran prematurely," and the network does "not have further information regarding the timeline" of when such a rebroadcast might occur.

While that might be a bit of a bummer for fans of the series hoping to catch it on the air once again (or for those who never saw it the first time who want to shut up their friends who tell them they have to watch it) there are still several ways for viewers to screen the show. All of its episodes are available on HBO Go, along with Amazon Prime and iTunes.

Stay tuned to see if and when HBO will rebroadcast "The Wire." In the meantime, enjoy this cool -- if inaccurate -- promo.
