Extended 'Dracula Untold' TV Spot Will Drive You Batty (VIDEO)

There's been a lot of talk recently about the direction that the Universal Monsters franchise will take in the next few years, with many theorizing a kind of interconnected mythology not unlike the so-called Marvel Cinematic Universe. But few of these articles have suggested what, exactly, will happen if next month's big budget "Dracula Untold" performs sizably. With Luke Evans' dashing take on the famed bloodsucker become canon for this next generation of films? Or will they shove a "prequel" label on it and pretend it never happened?

Well, we guess we'll find out soon enough. But we are really, really jazzed about this new incarnation of Bram Stoker's beloved antihero, and a new, extended TV spot has us even more excited.

The spot, which runs for just over a minute, features bits of new footage and reinforces the "doomed romance" aspect of the story, with a leader (played by Evans) making a dark pact to save his kingdom and his family. And it looks outrageously cool. We particularly love Evans' delivery of the line, "Men do not fear swords, they fear monsters." Hell yeah they do!

This horror-movie-as-historical-epic approach feels fresh and the visuals are sumptuous and unnerving. Plus, the movie has a killer cast (get it?) that includes current Cronenberg muse Sarah Gadon, Samantha Banks and Dominic Cooper. It'll be in regular theaters and IMAX screens on October 10th. Just in time for Halloween. Count us in!
