Good News Kids, Your Favorite 'Wire' Characters Are Coming to 'Finding Dory'

One of our most anticipated movies of 2016 is undoubtedly "Finding Dory," Pixar's sequel to their beloved underwater adventure "Finding Nemo" (which was released way back in 2003). While details on the animated movie are scarce (we were at a party with the producer a few months ago and couldn't even squeeze anything out of her), it obviously concerns Dory, the forgetful fish played by Ellen DeGeneres and features returning cast members Albert Brooks and Willem Dafoe (and, as revealed at D23 last year, Ty Burrell plays a Beluga whale). But some new casting news has dropped, and it should make all those little kids who are fans of cultish HBO series very happy.

Dominic West, who played the hardened, alcoholic detective McNulty on the freakishly adored HBO series "The Wire" recently revealed to The Shortlist (via Film Divider) that both he and Idris Elba, who played ruthless gang enforcer Stringer Bell, will make appearances in the Pixar sequel (once again directed by Andrew Stanton, who last helmed live action sci-fi film "John Carter" - which featured a supporting turn by West).

"We're both in the sequel to 'Finding Nemo,' so we were recording that," West said about his "Wire" costar. Then he added (adorably): "I'm in pretty regular contact with a lot of guys from 'The Wire' - a lot of them are godparents to my kids, so I love them dearly."

This is really great, obviously. Not only does it mark West's first foray into animation, but it also means that the "Wire" reunion so many have wanted will take the form of two of the characters playing animated sea otters (or something). Pixar has a thing for critically acclaimed HBO series; Kevin McKidd, who starred in "Rome," made appearances in "Brave" and has a starring role in the studio's upcoming Christmas special "The Toy Story That Time Forgot." ("Rome" is a big hit with the kindergarten crowd.)

"Finding Nemo" swims into theaters nationwide on June 17th, 2016.
