ABC has confirmed the two newest additions to "The View," with actress Rosie Perez and political commentator Nicolle Wallace joining the talk show.
Perez and Wallace will fill two of the three seats vacated last season when Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy left the series, and "View" creator Barbara Walters retired. They join "View" stalwart Whoopi Goldberg, and the recently-returned Rosie O'Donnell.
In a statement, ABC lauded Perez and Wallace as the perfect fit for the series.
"These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table," said "View" executive producer Bill Wolff. "This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television."
E! reported that "potential new co-hosts participated in chemistry tests in front of an audience of about 75 people. The candidates were paired up randomly and asked to show off their gift of gab. A source told E! that Goldberg, O'Donnell, and "View" producers considered Perez and Wallace "favorites" for the spots, and that the pair's selection "was basically unanimous." "
"The View" is slated to air new episodes starting on September 15 on ABC.
