'OITNB' Star Laverne Cox to Host Transgender Documentary for MTV and Logo

Instyle Hosts 20th Anniversary Party

"Orange Is the New Black" star Laverne Cox is set to host and produce a documentary about transgender youth for MTV and Logo, which will air next month.

"Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word" will follow seven young trans people between the ages of 12 and 24 as they navigate the challenges that their identities pose in their everyday lives, including coming out to friends and family, entering the dating scene, and dealing with bullying and violence. Among those to be profiled include a 24-year-old Brooklyn man who became the first transgendered person to play Division One college basketball, and a 12-year-old girl from California who will start at a new school this fall after her former school refused to accept her female identity.

"For many of us, the 'T' in LGBT means more than transgender, it also means truth," Cox said in a statement. "The cast members in this documentary are fearlessly living their truths and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it's okay to be who you are."

The special will air simultaneously on MTV and Logo, and be followed by a live hour-long forum on MTV.com in which viewers can write in with questions for Cox and MTV correspondent SuChin Pak, who will also host a discussion with a studio audience.

"Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word" will premiere on October 17 at 7 p.m., coinciding with LGBT Spirit Day on October 16.
