Forget "Days of Future Past" -- today is all about the "Apocalypse."
The next installment of the "X-Men" franchise isn't set to hit theaters until next May, but Fox has already set a release date for its follow-up. "X-Men: Apocalypse" will debut on May 27, 2016.
Director Bryan Singer, pictured above with Patrick Stewart on the set of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," broke the news on Twitter:
#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!
- Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) December 5, 2013 Nothing else is known about the project, though it's safe to assume Singer will at least be producing, if not directing the follow-up. And judging by the doomsday-inducing subtitle, it seems it will center on the villain Apocalypse and the sure-to-be-devastating aftermath of "Days of Future Past."
We'll have more on "X-Men: Apocalypse" as it becomes available. In the meantime, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is due out May 23, 2014.
