It appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt may hit the filmmaking trifecta: He's attached to produce -- and potentially star in and direct -- a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic series "The Sandman."
Deadline reports that Gordon-Levitt is currently finalizing a deal with Warner Bros. to produce the project alongside "The Dark Knight"'s David S. Goyer. The deal allegedly stipulates that Gordon-Levitt also play the lead, the personification of dreams known as Morpheus, and he may also direct, marking his second feature after this year's "Don Jon."
"Sandman," a fantasy-horror series, has a cult-like following, and JGL would no doubt be under an intense microscope if he took on the project. But since his stints in action and sci-fi/fantasy films like "The Dark Knight Rises," "Inception," and "Looper," he's gained some street cred, and his rising Hollywood popularity could bring an entirely new audience to the comics' story.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has been trying to adapt "Sandman" for a while now, and has high hopes that it could become a successful franchise. No writer is attached yet.
