'Pompeii' Trailer: Kit Harington Faces a Power Greater Than the Roman Empire (VIDEO)

Even at the height of its power, the Roman Empire couldn't overcome one foe: Mother Nature.



In a new trailer for "Pompeii," the jewel of the empire is destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupts. As terrified residents flee, a slave-turned-gladiator named Milo (Kit Harington) must fight his way out of the arena to save his love, Cassia (Emily Browning), before the molten fires consume them all.



There's a lot going on in the trailer: gladiator battles, a love story, corrupt politicians, and, of course, one helluva an eruption. Some of the shots look fantastic, and "Game of Thrones" star Harington is thankfully less covered-up than he is on the hit HBO drama.





"Pompeii" also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Jared Harris. It opens in theaters February 21, 2014.
