Is 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Heading Back to Hoth?!

star wars episode vii iceland hoth

Winter is coming to "Star Wars": A rumor is floating that part of "Star Wars: Episode VII" may be set on the ice planet Hoth.

The Icelandic site visir.is (via Metro UK) claims that crews will be filming landscape shots in that country this spring. The site says that no actors will be in the country; rather, the crew will take "plate shots" to be used for scenery.

The HBO series "Game of Thrones" shoots its scenes north of the Wall in Iceland, and it's no big leap to think that "Star Wars" will use the same icy, snowy vistas to replicate Hoth.

As fans of "Star Wars" well know, Hoth was featured prominently in the beginning of "The Empire Strikes Back." An image from those scenes has become a widely-circulated meme after a frigid winter in parts of the U.S.

Of course, all of this is pure speculation, as very little is known about the plot of "Episode 7." Only last week was it revealed that the movie will take place 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi."

Still, we're crossing our fingers for a tauntaun comeback.
