New 'Hercules' Photos Reveal a Super-Beefy Dwayne Johnson (PHOTOS)

Earlier this year, we were assaulted with "The Legend of Hercules," a movie that is so poor that I wouldn't fall asleep to it on an airplane for fear that it would infect my dreams with poor narrative thrust and awkward action sequences. Still: you can't keep a good myth down and, come July, there will be another take on the gigantic strongman anyway. Brett Ratner's "Hercules" has a big one-up over the horrible movie from January -- the presence of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the title role. USA Today debuted two new images of the action star and things look considerably more intense.

The two shots of Johnson aren't terribly evocative, at least on a plot level, since in both photos he's just screaming and sweaty (hey, that would be a pretty cool name for his autobiography). Beau Flynn told USA Today that Johnson didn't exactly roll out of bed and come to the set. "It's incredible, he's up every morning at 3:45 right on the treadmill, then it was right to the gym for hours," Flynn said. "And then it was to the makeup chair, then shooting all day in the heat. And repeat that for 90 days." (Johnson said that it took him nearly four hours to get into the costume and make-up everyday. That is longer than last year's Wrestlemania!)

What's kind of cool is that Johnson acknowledges that the earlier "Hercules" caused some "confusion," but that he's sure that people will show up to his telling of the tale (which takes place after Hercules' 12 Labors). "The No. 1 goal is to make the definitive version of Hercules," Johnson told USA Today. "We know we're going to be under a microscope."

This version of "Hercules" rampages onto screens on July 25th. Start working out now.
