David Fincher Wants Christian Bale to Play Steve Jobs

While last year's Steve Jobs biopic, "Jobs," starring Ashton Kutcher left much to be desired, a new take on the late Apple founder's life is shaping up to be pretty prestigious.

TheWrap reports that David Fincher, who is in talks to direct a Jobs biopic written by Aaron Sorkin, already has a leading man in mind: Christian Bale. And it seems that the project landing Bale is key to landing Fincher, too.

"Fincher recently met with Sony's Amy Pascal to discuss the possibility of directing the film, and told her, in no uncertain terms, that he'd only take the reins of the project if Bale plays Jobs," TheWrap writes. Apparently, it's Bale's strong physical resemblance to Jobs that put him on the top of Fincher's leading man list.

The film is based on author Walter Isaascson's bestselling 2011 biography of Jobs, and if it comes together, would reunite the Oscar-nominated team behind 2010's "The Social Network," including Fincher, Sorkin (who snagged the statuette for Best Adapted Screenplay), and producer Scott Rudin. The film, currently untitled, consists of three main acts focusing on major Apple product launches: the Mac, NeXT, and the iPod.

According to TheWrap, Bale has not yet been approached about the part, and is currently on a mini acting hiatus following the long shoot for Ridley Scott's biblical epic "Exodus," due out in December. Sony's Pascal reportedly has a good relationship with Bale following their collaboration on "American Hustle," making his eventual involvement in the Jobs project seem likely.

If Fincher's star aligns, production is expected to begin either late this year or early next year. Stay tuned for further developments.
