Amy Poehler Reveals Memoir Details and They Include a Hilarious Jon Hamm Anecdote

The name says it all: Amy Poehler's forthcoming memoir, titled "Yes Please," is due out this fall, and we can't wait to get our hands on a copy.



During a panel appearance at BookCon in New York City this weekend, Poehler revealed some details about the book in anticipation of its October release, including a handful of subjects it will cover. Expect chapters about motherhood, sex, social media (that section is dubbed "My Phone is Trying to Kill Me"), and her divorce from husband Will Arnett, a subject Poehler said would be handled delicately.



The "Parks and Recreation" star also shared one in-depth anecdote that will find its way into the book, about an encounter she had with Jon Hamm in 2008 on the stage of "Saturday Night Live," which Hamm was set to host for the first time. Poehler explained that she was nine months pregnant with her first child, and at that stage of her pregnancy had regular check-ins with her doctor, an OB/GYN of advanced age.



The Friday before the show -- which also happened to be the day before Poehler's due date -- the actress was rehearsing a "Mad Men" spoof scene with Hamm and excused herself to call her doctor's office, only to make a horrifying discovery:

[T]he receptionist was crying. I said, "What's wrong?" and she said, "Oh, [the doctor] passed away last night." I was due the next day. So it's my first kid, I'm in a "Mad Men" outfit, I turn to everybody and I hysterically start crying, and a really pregnant woman crying is terrifying. So, juicy tears just like squirting out of my eyes. And it was like the punch line to a joke, it's like, my doctor just died and I'm due tomorrow. And Jon Hamm, who I am just getting to know, comes over and puts his hands on my shoulder and is like, "This is a really important show for me. I'm gonna need you to get your shit together." And I laughed so hard, I probably peed myself.

If the rest of the stories in Poehler's memoir are this hilarious -- and it seems like a safe bet they will be -- it's going to be an agonizing wait before the book finally hits shelves. "Yes Please" is due out on October 28.
