If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
The women of "Friends" staged a surprise mini reunion on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" after Kimmel pleaded with guest Jennifer Aniston to act out a "Friends" fan fiction scene he wrote. A chagrined Aniston agreed, and Kimmel led her out to a perfect recreation of the set for Monica's kitchen, where the pair, playing Ross and Rachel, discussed how good Ross is in bed. After Kimmel made a crack about how unbelievable it is that the "Friends" gang was always hanging out at Monica's for breakfast before work, both Monica (Courteney Cox) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) arrived. They took turns reciting lines from the show's theme song as dialogue -- complete with hand claps! -- and continued the discussion of Ross's sexual prowess. The ladies eventually tired of Kimmel's terrible script, though, and bail -- but they can't resist the "Friends" tradition of taking a bow before the live studio audience after a taping.
Aniston, there to promote her new movie, "Life of Crime," chatted with Kimmel about the host's new daughter, and recalled meeting the baby for the first time. The actress told Kimmel that she also tried some of his wife's breast milk ("She breastfed me," Aniston declared), a revelation that made the host recoil in disgust. The actress also talked about her recent participation in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (she was nominated by her fiance, Justin Theroux), and how it led to her challenging Howard Stern. In turn, the radio host challenged Barbara Walters -- and the recently-deceased Casey Kasem. Oops.
Kimmel's staff had some fun with the Ice Bucket Challenge themselves, with the host sending around Cousin Sal to hand out surprise ice water baths to unsuspecting people around the office. As you might expect, some didn't take it so well, screaming obscenities and chasing after Sal. One poor security guard, doused and told to donate to ALS research, says sadly, "I don't make that much money." "Sell the bucket," Sal replies, handing him the empty vessel. Another clip showed how "Live" producer Jason Schrift's own attempt at the challenge at home went horribly wrong when his wife hit the wrong button while recording. All joking aside, Kimmel urged his audience to donate to ProjectALS.org.
On "The Late Show," host David Letterman chatted with James McAvoy, who shared a story of an unfortunate run-in with a fan who confused him for Ewan McGregor. McAvoy knew something was fishy when the woman told him she was a big fan of his TV show (which McAvoy doesn't have) and loved his motorcycle adventures (which McGregor does). The polite actor decided not to break the news to the woman.
McAvoy also recounted a story of a crazy night following a pub crawl, in which he and seven buddies piled into a London cab intent on meeting friends at a park, but ended up tearing around town with a driver who was a stand-up comic in disguise. Their adventures involved fleeing from fake police sirens and blaring "Yakety Sax" from "Benny Hill," causing at first utter terror before morphing into sheer delight. The cabbie got a big tip, McAvoy said.
