Dennis Haskins, better known to '90s TV fans as Mr. Belding from "Saved by the Bell," is none too pleased with the upcoming Lifetime movie about the behind the scenes drama on the syndicated series, and lashed out at those responsible for flick -- including onetime Screech, Dustin Diamond.
In an interview with TMZ, Haskins offered a litany of complaints against the production, chief among them that the movie is mostly fictional.
"I was there. I know what happened and didn't happen. And there wasn't time for a lot to happen behind the scenes, because the kids went to work in the morning, and then I came in at noon, we went to work in the afternoon, they were in and out of school, that kind of stuff," Haskins told the site.
The actor also called out Diamond's 2009 memoir "Behind the Bell," which included many salacious stories about the series (though none of them are said to be featured in "The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story"). While Diamond has since backtracked on several assertions he made in the book, the actor is still serving as an executive producer on the Lifetime flick. That doesn't sit well with Haskins, who told TMZ that after working with Diamond for 11 years, the two "had a great relationship" that has since been ruined, with Diamond refusing to assume responsibility for the movie's (alleged) lies.
Haskins added that he thought the flick was a shameless cash grab, and said he wouldn't be tuning in when it premieres.
"There just wasn't any craziness, you know?" Haskins told TMZ. "It was like, yeah, people dated each other. Okay, so what?"
"The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" makes its debut on Lifetime on September 1. A new clip from the flick was also released this week, and is available on Hulu; check it out below.
