The biggest surprise at the Emmy Awards last night wasn't that crazy Weird Al Yankovic number or the kiss between Julia Louis-Drefyus and Bryan Cranston. It was British series "Sherlock" walking away with more awards than heavyweights like "Breaking Bad" or "True Detective."
(Of course, it was competing in the TV movie category, due to bizarre Emmy regulations.)
"Sherlock" took home seven awards -- including trophies for stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman - and was the evening's big winner. So how does co-creator (and Emmy winner himself) Steven Moffat plan to top a season that received so many accolades?
"We have a plan to top it. And I do think our plan is devastating," he told reporters backstage at the ceremony. "We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about 'Sherlock.'"
The series' other creator, Mark Gatiss, told Entertainment Weekly that they're taking the show "somewhere we've never been before - and I don't mean outer space."
"It will be challenging place to go. We always start with a re-introduction that builds toward a darker climax - we might just be going darker [from the outset]," he teased. "We got a very, very good set of ideas."
Unfortunately, fans won't get to see those ideas for quite awhile. "Sherlock" season 4 likely won't be aired until 2016.
