Matthew McConaughey May Haunt Your Dreams as the Villain in 'The Stand'

Paramount Studios Presentation - Comic-Con International 2014

The upcoming big screen adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand" may be getting a major dose of star power, with the studio seeking Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey to play the main villain.

Deadline reports that McConaughey is at the top of Warner Bros.'s list for the role of Randall Flagg, described by the site as "the personification of evil, a demonic figure who wreaks havoc after a plague kills most of the population." Sounds like a juicy part, should McConaughey choose to accept it.

Of course, Deadline also notes that there is no definitive word on whether or not McConaughey will star in the film, and it seems that Warner Bros. hasn't even had talks with the actor yet. But director Josh Boone ("The Fault in Our Stars") told Vulture back in June that he wants to assemble "an amazing, A-list cast" for the flick, and we can't think of anyone better to top off the ensemble than the red-hot McConaughey.

Stay tuned.
