Filming of a pivotal "Game of Thrones" scene involving a naked Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) was recently blocked by Croatian officials, due to religious objections.
TMZ reports that the scene in question, featuring Cersei emerging nude from a church and wandering around King's Landing, was due to be shot at the Church of St. Nicholas in Dubrovnik, Croatia, but producers could not obtain the necessary permits from the local film commission. The site writes that "the church has a lot of power and a rigid policy against public displays of sexuality," and the film commission has deferred to the church on the matter, delaying filming.
No solution has been offered so far, but as TMZ notes, the scene is an iconic moment from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" books and cannot be cut. Looks like producers are going to have to find a more freewheeling church, or get creative with CGI.
The fifth season of "Game of Thrones" -- which may or may not feature Headey nude -- is set to debut early next year on HBO.
