Remember "Annabelle," the creepy doll from "The Conjuring"? Well, she is getting her own movie. And the new trailer for the film (viewable below) suggests that it's going to be really, really, ridiculously scary. To quote Chris Pratt from "Guardians of the Galaxy": "There's a little pee coming out of me right now."
The movie is set before the events of "The Conjuring," and seems to involve a young couple (played by Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton) who encounter an intruder in their home. When the intruder is killed, she scrawls some kind of pagan symbols into the wall and, with her dying breath, has her spirit inhabit a neighboring doll.
Cut to: the young couple moves into a new house, one less associated with a violent home invasion, and, of course, the doll shows up and wreaks all kinds of supernatural havoc. Also, Alfre Woodard shows up as what appears to be a mystic, hired by the family to rid their home of evil.
Quite frankly, we were a little skeptical of the spin-off, especially since the original "Conjuring" is so ridiculously great. But "Conjuring" director James Wan has returned in a producer capacity and new director John R. Leonetti, who served as a cinematographer on the original film, seems to maximize the scare potential of the small house that the movie takes place in. There are a bunch of great gags in the trailer that play with spatial orientation and forced perspective, in really surprising and unsettling ways.
In short: we're in. Even if we have to watch have the movie through our fingers.
"Annabelle" opens October 3rd. Just in time for Halloween.
