If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
"The Voice" coach Blake Shelton stopped by "The Tonight Show" and played a round of Random Object Football Toss with host Jimmy Fallon, in celebration of the start of football season on Thursday night. The pair attempted to throw items through a target, with mixed results, mostly because the objects were so odd (and mostly food-related). A bowl of eight-layer bean dip ended up making the biggest mess, though unsurprisingly, it was also the most fun for Shelton and Fallon to toss.
Shelton sat down with Fallon to discuss the host's recent purchase of a truck, with the country crooner offering up some advice on how best to care for the vehicle. First off, trucks belong in the country, not the city, Shelton said, and they should be filthy, covered in "guts ... corn and shovels." For Fallon, the latter directive was eerily reminiscent of a "Dateline" episode, though he promised he was taking proper care of the vehicle -- and was super excited for pumpkin season. The pair also chatted about Shelton's winning streak on "The Voice," and his new album -- once Shelton could get a word in edgewise, that is.
On "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Gwyneth Paltrow and host Jimmy Kimmel discussed Paltrow's earliest roles, including what would have been the actress's film debut -- until her father intervened. Paltrow explained that she was offered the lead role in the 1991 Vanilla Ice movie "Cool as Ice," but her dad refused to let her take the part. "He made a really good call," Kimmel quipped.
The pair also chatted about their surprising similarities, with Kimmel declaring that he feels like "the male Gwyneth Paltrow." The host explained that he follows the actress's lifestyle site, Goop, religiously, and loves to cook. Paltrow said she works on Goop every day, an involvement level that surprised Kimmel. "Martha Stewart, she doesn't even exist," he marveled.
Paltrow also reminisced about her childhood love of Huey Lewis, and her great experience working with the singer on the movie "Duets," which produced a hit single from the pair, a cover of "Cruisin'." She also shared with Kimmel some details about her unconventional schooling in California, which included her fifth grade teacher leading dance parties to Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing," and an "emotional movement class."
Fellow "Kimmel" guest Terry Crews shared some anecdotes from his long and varied career, which began as a courtroom sketch artist in Michigan, then led to pro football, then acting. Crews, inspired by "Star Wars," always figured he'd go into special effects and pursued art before he ever got into sports or theater, he said. The "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star brought along his portfolio and shared some truly impressive paintings and sketches with the "Kimmel" crowd, declaring, "I'm an artiste!"
Kimmel also introduced the latest installment in his ongoing series of asking kids for parenting advice, following the recent birth of his daughter. His chat with a child named Charlie wasn't exactly productive, though, since they couldn't even get past the host's first question: Where do babies come from? "I'm a kid. Don't ask me that," an embarrassed Charlie replied.
Kristen Wiig sat down with David Letterman on "The Late Show" and discussed how the actress's father was put off by some of her movies' quirky titles, including her latest film, "The Skeleton Twins." Her dad also doesn't care for watching his daughter's sex scenes, Wiig explained, and really hated her work in "MacGruber" in particular. Wiig also discussed her summer spent shooting a movie in Asheville, North Carolina, describing the city as full of hippies who may or may not have spent their lives following The Grateful Dead. The experience was so freeing and relaxing that the actress said she experienced a bit of culture shock upon her return to New York City -- not unlike a certain Jodie Foster flick.
On "Conan," host Conan O'Brien revealed that even more celebrity photos have been hacked, and this batch was even more embarrassing than the last. O'Brien then showed off some (totally not made up) snaps of Kim Kardashian reading "War and Peace" ("That's deadly for her," CoCo quipped), Guy Fieri eating a salad, and the cast of "Duck Dynasty" attending a gay pride parade, among other surprising shots.
