Celebrities at TIFF: Who Your Toronto Neighbourhood Can Expect

Even celebrities can't escape the world of cliques. Just like every high school has its jocks, its freaks and its geeks, every large-scale celeb gathering has its hipsters, its attention whores and its old timers.

The Toronto Film Festival is certainly no exception. Since the festival's headquarters moved to the Entertainment District, celebrities have dispersed across the city. Yorkville is no longer a sure thing if you're banking on spotting your favourite stars. And they're popping up in unusual places. Last year, the hot spot proved to be Hudson Kitchen in Little Portugal, of all places. It attracted the likes of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (separately).

So if you're wondering which neighbourhoods to lurk about in or which to avoid if celeb sightings aren't your thing, we've got you covered. Behold, our guide to where to find which celebs during TIFF this year.

The Hipster Wannabes: The Ossington Strip. The strip was super hot among the horn-rimmed glasses set a few years ago. But now that word is out, the cooler-than-thou crew has migrated elsewhere (see the next category). That leaves the Ossington Strip wide open for hipster wannabes who are trying oh-so-hard to seem cool. This would be a good bet for spotting stars like Adrian Grenier, Adrien Brody and, as much as it pains us to write, Johnny Depp.

The Actual Hipsters: Scarborough. Scarborough is the next Brooklyn, haven't you heard? Of course you haven't. By the time you get the memo, the hipsters will have flocked over to Yonge and Eg, which becomes so cheesy it's in again. (For one hot second.) Expect to see the celebs who have their finger on the pulse of all things cool, like Ryan Gosling, Aubrey Plaza and Adam Driver.

The Douches: Exhibition Place.
More specifically, Muzik nightclub, stomping grounds of douche lords such as Justin Bieber, Brody Jenner and yes, Rob Ford. Orlando Bloom will definitely want to avoid it if he's in town. Unless, of course, he's wants to finish what he started with the Biebs.

The Old Timers: Yorkville. Old habits die hard. Many seasoned TIFF vets are still loyal to the former heart of the festival -- and they're used to the finer things the swanky 'hood offers, like the Four Seasons and the Hazelton hotels. Kevin Spacey, Clint Eastwood and Bill Murray have all been spotted there in recent years.

The Attention Whores: The Entertainment District.
If you want a more precise target, try the Thompson Hotel. It's just down the street from the TIFF HQ, and it's earned a rep as the place to go for celebrity sightings. That means the celebs who hit it up this year will be going to be seen -- so don't be surprised to see attention seekers like James Franco, Kate Bosworth and Reese "You're About to Find Out Who I Am" Witherspoon.

The Late Night Comedians: Ford Country. Jon Stewart will be in town to promote his new flick, and he may want to make a detour over to Etobicoke to sniff out some fodder for "The Daily Show." Lucky fans could find him hanging out at Steak Queen, waiting for Rob Ford to break into Patois, brag about what he's got to eat at home or even enter into a standoff with a raccoon.

The Everymen: The Esplanade. Some celebs don't mind mixing with the masses -- so you just might be able to grab a beer with (OK, near) them on one of The Esplanade's many bustling patios. Think Jason Bateman, Jessica Chastain and Adam Sandler.
