The 'Escape From New York' Reboot May Feature Charlie Hunnam in an Eye Patch

2014 Huading Film Awards - ArrivalsThere hasn't been much news on the "Escape From New York" reboot front since the flick was first announced way back in March 2013. But according to a new report, plans for the movie are still in motion -- and the production is zeroing in on its Snake Plissken.

Starlog writes that Charlie Hunnam is at the top of producers' wish list to play the iconic eye patch-wearing character. The site's sources note that Hunnam is "currently the top contender now that his run on SONS OF ANARCHY has concluded, although it is unclear if his commitments to PACIFIC RIM 2 will leave the actor unavailable."

Hunnam is also in the running for the lead in director Guy Ritchie's "King Arthur," leaving his plate pretty full to be taking on new projects. So who else has the "Escape" reboot set in its sights? Two other actors that Starlog's sources name as potential Plisskens are Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead") and Dan Stevens ("The Guest," "Downton Abbey").

As for the plot of the flick, Starlog's sources also claim to have plenty of dirt on that, too, including that the film will be much more focused on a team of characters, rather than just Plissken as the main protagonist. The flick will follow Plissken as he "traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President," Starlog reports, mixing in characters both old and new.

Starlog has much more potential plot info about the film, which you can check out on their site. Whether any of this pans out remains to be seen, though considering how long it's been since there's been any word about this movie at all, we'll take what we can get at this point. Stay tuned.
