Sandra Bullock Is the Highest-Paid Actress in Hollywood

"Gravity" sent her rocketing into space, and now the role has shot star Sandra Bullock straight to the top of Forbes's list of highest-earning actresses.



Bullock raked in $51 million between June 2013 and June 2014, the eligibility period for Forbes's list, thanks mostly to her high-profile role in Alfonso Cuaron's Oscar-winning feature. But while that hefty sum is enough to peg the actress as the third-highest-earning Hollywood actor of any gender -- behind only Robert Downey Jr.'s $74 million and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's $52 million -- Forbes notes that women are still earning far less than men, with the top 10 actresses on the magazine's list earning a collective $226 million, versus $419 million for the top 10 highest-earning men.



Still, Forbes writes that females taking action-centric roles have been able to make lucrative earnings in recent years, including number two on their 2013-2014 list, Jennifer Lawrence, who collected $34 million in that time period. Lawrence's presence in blockbuster series such as "The Hunger Games" and "X-Men" have helped bolster her box office profile, while her critical adoration (and 2013 Oscar win) also adds to her earnings potential. Add in smart back-end deals for the "Hunger Games" franchise, and Lawrence should be making the Forbes list for years to come.



The rest of the Forbes top 10 are, in order: Jennifer Aniston ($31 million); Gwyneth Paltrow ($19 million); Angelina Jolie and Cameron Diaz (tied for fifth place with $18 million each); Scarlett Johansson ($17 million); Amy Adams and Natalie Portman (tied for eighth with $13 million each); and Kristen Stewart ($12 million).
