The report says notes that the project is set up at Universal, with some guy named Judd Apatow producing. (Judd who?) It supposedly takes place within the world of professional music, and we can only assume that there will be a bunch of new songs / a new album tightly connected with the project. (The group has two albums: 2009's "Incredibad" and last year's "The Wack Album.")
Schaffer has directed "Hot Rod" and bloated Ben Stiller comedy "The Watch," both of which were loosely connected with the group, while Taccone directed "MacGruber," a modern comedic masterpiece that will one day get the respect it rightfully deserves (mark our words). Samberg, of course, is about to begin the second season of acclaimed Fox sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," where he plays himself but as a cop.
Most recently, The Lonely Island contributed lyrics and vocals to "Everything Is Awesome," the insidiously infectious theme song to this year's smash "The Lego Movie." Hopefully this Lonely Island movie gets going soon. Now that would be awesome.
