The 'Birdman' Trailer Delivers a Strange, Squawky Peek at the Michael Keaton Flick (VIDEO)

birdman trailerThe latest trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming film "Birdman" has got us flying high this fine Friday afternoon. It is a strange, squawky peek at the man formerly known as Birdman (Michael Keaton), an actor who gave up the franchise biz to do, well, whatever superheroes do when they hang up their tights. In this case, Keaton's character Riggan is trying to reboot his career with a stage play, but he's got to do battle with his fall from glory, his insecurities, and all the nay-sayers -- including the one that's in his head. This leads to all sorts of strange scenarios, including one that has Keaton running through Times Square in his tighty whities.

"Birdman," which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this fall, has a fabulous cast that includes Emma Stone as Riggan's daughter, plus Edward Norton, Amy Ryan, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts, and Andrea Riseborough. The Oscar-nominated Iñárritu is no slouch, but another aspect of the film's production has piqued our interest. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who picked up an Oscar for his mind-bending work on "Gravity," filmed "Birdman" in such a way that it appears to be one long take, with no cuts. That's not to say there aren't cuts at all, just that it will look like it was shot in one take; either way, it's an impressive feat of filmmaking.

Plus, we're psyched to see Michael Keaton return to the screen in a major way. There's definitely some metatextual stuff happening here, given Keaton's previous performances at Batman in Tim Burton's take on the Dark Knight. Some would even argue that Keaton's Batman is as great or even better than Christian Bale's performance.

In any case, check out this trailer with your headphones on, as it's got some swears in it.

"Birdman" will fly into theaters on October 17.
