The weekend of May 6, 2016 just got a little less crowded with dudes in tights decimating cities. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was supposed to go toe-to-toe with "Captain America 3" that weekend, but apparently the massive success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" has made Warner Bros. execs rethink pitting the DC Comics dark knight against Marvel's team of avengers.
Instead, "Dawn of Justice" will fly into theaters on March 25, 2016. The summer movie season schedule is carefully calibrated by studios to achieve the maximum bang for their buck, so it makes sense that WB would want as sure of a thing as possible with "Dawn of Justice." Whereas January and February are notorious dumping grounds for lackluster movies, March is when things start to warm up. Zack Snyder's big hit "300" came out on March 7, 2007, and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" came out on April 4 earlier this year. "Man of Steel" divided fans and critics, although it still made over $116M its opening weekend; on the other hand, anything related to "The Avengers" universe is a sure thing.
What's your take on the situation? Does it matter to audiences when a movie comes out, or is this just inside baseball?
