Would You Buy Movie Tickets On Twitter?

Twitter buy button

If you've noticed a "Buy" button appearing on a few Tweets in your timeline, you're not alone. Twitter has partnered with a select few businesses to test the waters for e-commerce functionality in Apple and Android apps. The first round of partners includes Fancy (@fancy), Gumroad (@gumroad), Musictoday (@Musictoday) and Stripe (@stripe), with plans to add "Buy" button functionality to more users and companies in the near future.

So far the partners are mostly musicians and charities, but moving into TV, movies, and other sorts of home entertainment would be the next logical step. There are plenty of existing apps for buying movie tickets (ahem) or shopping for TV shows and video games, but this would be one way to streamline the process - and to encourage impulse buys. Then again, if users get fed up with the company's other so-called future innovations, like Facebook-style algorithms for your feed and/or group chats, there might not be anyone left to sell stuff to by the time it's fully functional. See below for more details on how the "Buy" button will work.
