Remember when Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino made "Grindhouse," complete with fake trailers by other horror/action directors? Well, Rodriguez's latest short film is a little like that, but in spaaaace!
"Machete Kills Again... In Space" actually played as a trailer in theaters before "Machete Kills," which you may or may not have seen. (Judging by box office returns, not everyone was so hot on seeing Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen in the same movie, or at all.) Some speculate it could be turned into a feature film, much as the trailers for "Grindhouse" launched Machete himself, but who knows?
In any case, this little trailer is entertaining in its own right, with riffs on "Star Wars," plus plenty of guns, explosions, and "space babes." This includes "Machete" stars Michelle Rodriguez, Alexa Vega, and even Lady Gaga. If Michelle Rodriguez wielding a ray gun doesn't sell you, we don't know what will.
Oh, maybe Machete taking down a Justin Bieber-like robot named Bleep. That's worth the price of admission right there.
This trailer is "Rated X for Space Violence," but we're fairly confident it's safe for most work places.
Rodriguez's long-awaited "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" will hack its way into theaters August 22, 2014.
