Looks like webs aren't the only thing Spider-Man is spinning. TheWrap reports that Sony is planning on giving other heroes and villains in Spidey's orbit their own spin-off films.
"We are going to access Marvel's full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains," said Amy Pascal, co-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment, at an investors meeting Thursday.
Sony licenses Spider-Man from Marvel (now owned by Disney), but owns the rights to other characters in the web-slinger's universe, including the villains Rhino and Electro, who will appear in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," due out next May. TheWrap reports that the four previously-released "Spider-Man" films made a combined $3 billion-plus at the international box office, making it an enticing property for further expansion.
Pascal offered no further details about which characters would hit the spotlight next or when the first spin-off could be expected. Stay tuned for further developments; we'll keep our spider senses tingling until then.
